I receive many enquiries from workers who clearly have bona fide claims but are out of time to bring them in the employment tribunal. One thing that sets employment tribunals apart from most other legal forums is that they are still free to use, although we went through a period, not too long ago, when it cost up to £1,200 to bring a claim.

Fortunately those days are past and we are back where we started, but to take advantage of the ‘free to use service’, there is a strict time limit in which one must bring a claim.

In most instances, claims must be brought within three months (less one day) of the date of the alleged wrongdoing.1

Whether it be an unfair dismissal or an unlawful deduction from pay, tribunals are very strict on keeping to the time limit and a significant amount of case law has been developed on this particular topic alone.
