Q. my employer has recently sent out a message stating that if an employee forgets to either clock in or out(even if they’ve already done one of these) they will be docked the whole days wage until the next pay, which is a fortnight. When i queried this i was told “ we can’t prove that you worked” when i suggested using the computer system to confirm the times worked she replied “it’s not our job to make sure you’re here”. nowhere in our contract does it state this is acceptable. is this ok?
A. No, it’s not ok. You are entitled to be paid for the work you do within your pay period. To dock a whole day’s pay for failing to clock in or out is unfair. I suggest you raise a formal grievance demanding that such a policy be discontinued as a matter of urgency.
