Race discrimination?

Q. Hello...I have a Q for when it comes to referencing & background checks.

I have lived in UK for nearly 26yrs (since I was 13) olive skin with dark hair & eyes (ull know why later the reason for amazing that). I have Studied & gained multiple qualifications & was an area manager twice. Due to my ethnicity, I have never been treated fairly whenever I apply for a job.

I feel like I'd have had 100% better opportunities if I had blue eyes & blond hair!!! I'm meeting all the criteria for this location/jobs & still they keep getting my dates wrong even with all the proves that I have provided professional & personal references.

How do I approach this issue as its causing me great mental distress. I dont even know what to do anymore!!!

A. What you are saying is that you are being passed over for jobs purely because of your race or ethnicity, which of course is wrong and discriminatory. You will have to do some background investigatory work. Take a particular job you have recently not been shortlisted for. Pick one that you know, with your qualifications, you are more than capable of doing and should at least be called for an interview. Write to the employer and ask why you were not called for an interview. Be polite. You could use an excuse such as, “Can you advise me of my shortcomings, so that I can be better prepared in my next application?” - Something along those lines.
