Q. I was employed by a company six months ago to carry out the hours between 8 and 6 pm with one hour for lunch (unpaid) They are now asking me to change my hours to 730 to 17:00 with only 30 minute lunch break (again unpaid) how do I stop them changing my hours
A. Here’s an answer you're not going to like. You can’t stop them from changing your hours. Unfortunately, you do not gain full employment rights until you have the magic two years of service. Up to that time, your employer can more or less alter your terms and conditions on a whim and there’s little if anything you can do. Employment tribunals cannot hear claims until you have two years’ service except for breach of contract claims and certain automatically unfair dismissals.
You may say that changing your hours is a breach of contract - it is. But what damage do you suffer as a consequence? Nothing. So, in this instance, you are just going to have to accept the change or find another job. If you refuse to change it is likely you will be dismissed and as I said, there’s nothing you can do. The law can be very unfair at times!

Q. Basically I work 8 hours a day in a work van, I have to pick up a colleague who doesn't drive and actually spend 10 hours a day in the van. My employer is refusing to pay me overtime. I'm worried about going to HR and my supervisor just keeps shutting me down. I'm just sick of having to spend 10 hours away and only getting paid for 8. I leave my house at 6am whilst my colleague leaves at half 7. I just think it's wrong.
