Q. Hi Tim, Quick question if I may (time is not on my side) been with co 37.5 years and I have my 1st consultation about redundancy on Thursday at 9am - I believe they have pre determined the outcome already as have given us a guide of staffing now and staffing to be (new location far away) I’m losing 8 team members in c/s role and myself - am I right ?
A. It may be pre-determined in that they are closing your current workplace or your department and offering you positions elsewhere. That would not make the dismissals for redundancy unfair, as businesses close or move frequently. Even if your business is remaining open at the current location, your employer is entitled to close or downside departments, but they have a legal duty to consult with you before doing so.
