1. Employer failing to honour pay increase following completion of probation. What can I do?
Q. In my contract I was offered £38,000 per year and to rise to £40,000 after completing my probation period. My probation period was extended a couple of times but has since been completed and I have it in writing. However the employer is still refusing to give me the pay rise due to performance, is this allowed?
A. It's important to understand that the terms agreed upon in your employment contract are legally binding for both you and your employer. If your contract explicitly states that your salary will increase from £38,000 to £40,000 upon the successful completion of your probation period, and you have completed this period as confirmed in writing, you generally have a right to the agreed increase.
