I’ve just finished a three day employment tribunal which was somewhat contentious, to say the least. I suppose if it wasn’t then it wouldn't have ended up in the tribunal in the first place.
As with any tribunal case in which I have been involved, the parties, known as the Claimant and the Respondent, are ordered by the tribunal to agree a joint bundle of documents, well in advance, which they will refer to on the day of the hearing.
This ensures that anybody hearing evidence and the witnesses are all referring to the same documents which they can quickly be directed to in the bundle. It is a key document and is central to the hearing. Written statements from the witnesses, also provided well in advance of the hearing, usually refer to the documents by page number in the bundle.
