After 30 years of employment, a university lecturer's prospect of a happy retirement ends prematurely.
Tribunals have their limitations as a recent case has demonstrated. After a career of 30 years, lecturer Dr Anette Plaut, was sacked for gross misconduct and has recently won her case for unfair dismissal. She also succeeded in a claim for harassment and victimisation in respect of her suspension from work. Her claims of race discrimination were dismissed
Dr Plaut was sacked from her job as a physicist at Exeter University. She was a senior lecturer. Her style was loud, and she recognised it. She would tell students not to be offended by her style - it’s the way she was and her voice got louder the more passionate she became over something - particularly physics.
