During the first year of employment, statutory rules apply to holiday calculations
I’m often asked about taking holiday time off during the first year of employment. Employers are rightly concerned if a member of staff asks for two weeks off, returns and subsequently leaves after being in the role for only a couple of months. Many employers have been stung by staff leaving shortly after taking paid holiday in the first few months of their employment, and more often than not, they do not recoup the overpayment of wages.
