Another bank holiday and more to follow?
Monday has been designated a bank holiday and it is likely the coronation of Charles III will be designated a holiday too
I have received many enquiries about the bank holiday for the Queen Elizabeth’s funeral on Monday 19 September. Understandably, employers are concerned and want to do the right thing, but the cost of providing an additional day’s holiday is a significant financial burden to many.
Is it a ‘bank’ or ‘public’ holiday?
In law, there is a distinction between ‘bank’ holidays and ‘public’ holidays. Bank holidays are those created under the Banking and Financial Dealings Act 1971. They include days that are specifically listed in the Act as well as days that are proclaimed by the Monarch.
